1. Yes, I found this book engaging as it showed how much the child loved and missed her mother and how the black and white people lived together.

2. I think the author wants to tell her readers not to be racist and not to care about other people's status whether they are black or white.

3. Yes, August seem real and believeable. She reminds me of my mother, being caring like a mother.

4. Yes, part of the story makes me feel uncomfortable. I felt uncomfortable when Rosaleen was being beaten up by the dealer. This has not led to any new understanding or awarenes of some aspect of my life.

5. I have learn to not judge one by its looks and not to be racist. I have also learn to show respect to others whether I like the person or not.
